A Sophisticate and her Cat

"He's okay. Aren't you, Cat? Poor old Cat. Poor slob. Poor slob without a name. I don't have the right to give him one. We don't belong to each other. We just took up one day." Holly Golightly 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'

In the suburbs, it seems like EVERYONE has a pet. You see the women at the outdoor mall in the Summer or Fall with their Ralph Lauren Polo's, headbands, maybe, sunglasses, and their matching pets.

Most 'Sophisticated' women in the suburbs have their teacup yorkie in their fashionable Coach or Louis Vutton bag but what about those who own cats? Are they just as 'Sophisticated' or just as fashionable? Yes. I mean, who could ever forget the nameless cat at in 'Breakfast at Tiffany's?

I was never a cat person but one day a friend of mine introduced me to Chloe. I had told my friend that I would not take her if we didn't bond. When I first met her she snuggled against my socks showing me her belly with an adorably cute face. At that moment I knew I was hooked. Once I grown attached to her  I realized that a cat can act like a dog  as they look for their belly to be rubbed or play catch. They can fit into fashionably small carriers like a dog but unlike a gog they don't have to be walked.

A cat can meet you at the end of the day when you open the door without jumping up on you or on visitors and they don't bark. While on the computer or watching TV they snuggle in your lap and their warmth relaxes and soothes you. Their relaxed nature can relax any stressful Sophisticate. cat's are also soft to the touch and are affectionate if they are loved and taught to be as a kitten. A cat can also give a Sophisticate the independence she so desires "We belong to nobody, and nobody belongs to us. We don't even belong to each other" Holly Golightly 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'. A Sophisticate can leave a cat for a day or two or even three with enough food and water.

Unfortunately, there are few places that a cat can be brought to be groomed and bathed or pampered like a dog. There are also few places that provide clothing for cats like dogs have clothes and Halloween costumes made for their size and shape.

You can't bring a cat to the park and play. You can bring your cat in the car but they can not be left outside their carrier like a dog. When a runs away they are a lot harder to find (See 'Lost and Found Forever... in Your Heart').  Sometimes a cat can be aloof and a cat has claws and can scratch you as well as your furniture but you can also pick up a cat and give it a big hug or snuggle after a bad day. A cat can be the stuffed animal with the personality you so yearned to know and give you the unconditional love that anyone so desperately desires.

In the end, a cat can give a Sophisticate the unconditional love that she so desperately needs and deserves, what could be more 'Sophisticated' than that?! ;D!
