A Sophisticate and Halloween: Trick or Chic?

"Welcome witches with brooms and hats - Goblins and ghosts and big black cats - Have a treat, and sit a spell, Halloween is here and all is well" Unknown

In the seventh century, Pope Boniface IV designated November 1 All Saints' Day, a time to honor saints and martyrs. The celebration was also called All-hallows or All-hallowmas (from Middle English Alholowmesse meaning All Saints' Day) and the night before it, the night of Samhain, began to be called All-hallows Eve and, eventually, Halloween.

Today, Halloween is a time where kids dress up in costumes and go trick or treating with friends for candy. Like Christmas, Halloween holds special memories with family and friends. Previous costumes that we may have worn or that were worn by friends are remembered for their creativity and hilarity.

There is nothing like the enjoyment of carving a pumpkin, going on hayrides, and going to a haunted house to enjoy the thrill of being scared. Halloween is the enjoyment of being scared and scaring others. To enjoy the ability to fool others and ourselves while enjoying the simple and pure and childlike pleasures such as candy is the essence of Halloween.

On Halloween as we dress up in our Halloween costumes we recognize that we can be something other than ourselves. To trick everyone including ourselves can be scary in itself for some and liberating for others. For a Sophisticate, Halloween is about re-invention, creativity, and most importantly about having fun. Halloween is a time for fantasy and individuality and is a holiday at a time at night where you can be someone you can't be during the day.

For a Sophisticate, Halloween is fun because for one night she can be creative but also live out her fantasy. She can be whatever she or someone else wants to be and that means being naughty or nice. It's about letting your creativity run free through your costume and your make-up. It is all about for one night doing what is NOT the norm.

Halloween can be a night of re-invention to be able to see yourself as something that you would not normally be only to realize that it might suit you. On the other hand, a Sophisticate can exemplify a character that represents who they are thereby, providing a living embodiment of traits and characteristics that may have been previously hidden.

And of course, Halloween is a treat for the mere fact that for yet another time other than Valentines Day a Sophisticate can enjoy one of life's simplest pleasures such as candy completely guilt free.

A Sophisticate enjoys Halloween for the childlike enjoyment of everything it has to offer. Trick or Treat ;D
