A Sophisticate loves Football

"Football is like life - it requires perseverance, self- denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication, and respect for authority." Vince Lombardi

During the Fall and Winter months instead of going to church, my parents and I would watch football. We were a family who liked to watch sports, whether it be baseball, NFL football, or college basketball. Of course, the sport we really came together as a family was football. Unlike most women I knew, my mother loved watching football as much as my dad and had just as much to say about it.

My mother would make good food all week except Sunday. Where as other mothers would cook and set the table for Sunday dinner, my mother would set up the TV tables and delicious snacks were provided all day finished  with pizza  for dinner. Football was on all day and when all of the games were done we would watch the highlights.

Like the choice to choose my religion, my parents gave me the freedom to choose my favorite team. My favorite teams went from being the Colts, to the 49ers, to the Eagles, to the Giants (when they played the Eagles), and finally, to present day, the Ravens.

My Dad taught me that there are three types of people. Those who chose a team based on where they grew up, those who would cheer for a particular coach or particular player, and finally, those who just enjoyed watching a great game regardless of what team was playing. For me, it was always based on a particular coach or player.

Why does a Sophisticate in the 21st Century love football? Football is the only sport that  matches her tenacity and strength. The only sport that matches her drive to succeed and win at all costs. There is no time to cry over an injury. Like life, she has to take the hard hits and keep going. A Sophisticate lives through the self-discipline, the strength, the speed, and agility of the football players found on the field.

She takes lessons from the great coaches and leaders such as Vince Lombardi, Tom  Landry, Bill Walsh, and Bud Grant to name a few.

Also, in football there is no time for mistakes. In football, focus is key. There is no other sport that represents her personality best than the game of football. A Sophisticate in the 21st Century is not a wallflower. She is strong, tenacious, a team player (A Sophisticate is a Team Player), and a born leader (A Sophisticate is a Leader).

In the end, a Sophisticate loves football because there is no other sport that represents her passion, strength, focus, agility, and although a woman she has the ability to be a team player and leader of men at the same time ;D
