The Most Important Love Lesson
"Our world is no more permanent than a wave rising on the ocean. Whatever our struggles and triumphs, however we may suffer them, all too soon they bleed into a wash, just like watery ink on paper" Arthur Golden,  from the book 'Memoirs of a Geisha'

While a relationship would end people would tell me to concentrate on myself. Being single for so long it has been all about me for awhile. Unfortunately, it is has been too much about me and therefore, I never understood why I should concentrate on myself more. Wasn't love about forgetting yourself? Giving and the sacrifice of oneself? How am I supposed to fall in love with another person by concentrating on myself?

This year I realized what they meant. The answer is our personal journey throughout life helps to determine who we are and who we love.A soul mate is exactly that, someone who is another part of us. I am my soul mate  as much as he is me (A Sophisticate finds her Soul Mate).

How can our soul mate discover us if we don't know who we are? We must know and love ourselves before others can know and love us as well.

In the beginning of the year, I believed that I would never fall in love. I was happy and felt complete. I knew myself well enough to know that I my 'other half' didn't exist. The reason he didn't exist was  because I believed that I didn't need someone to make me feel whole. At the end of the year, I realized that my hope for love had to die so that it could be reborn. That may be the reason why people say love appears when you least expect it.

Even when a Sophisticate feels complete within herself there is always the opportunity to experience the happiness that only love can provide.

Like energy, love is neither created nor destroyed.

Love simply takes different forms such as acts of kindness towards others, happiness experienced, secrets shared (Sophisticated Love Lesson #6: Secrets), trust built, and a even smile between friends (Sophisticated Love Rule #3: Best Friends).Love never ends and it exists even when you try to run from your feelings.
Love is happiness, suffering, tears, sacrifice, and laughter. Married, single, in a relationship, in a partnership, for a Sophisticate doesn't matter, love begins each day whether it has lasted 50 years or it hasn't appeared (Lucky in Love), yet.

Whatever a Sophisticate has suffered in love as in life it doesn't matter. In her journey of throughout life, no matter her triumphs or failures, a Sophisticate loves and lives again. In the end, the most important love lesson is that love begins every day within herself and it never ends. ;D
