A Sophisticate at a Masquerade

"God has given your face, and you make yourself another" William Shakespeare

When we were children we were innocent, free from fear to be completely ourselves. There is this freedom we feel to express ourselves the way we want to and at some point we let other people tell us who we are and who we should be. We put on a mask to disguise ourselves because we are afraid to get hurt or fail. We tell ourselves that  our mask is the only way for us to survive or to succeed.

"The opposite of courage is not cowardice, it is conformity" Jim Hightower

The truth is, the more a Sophisticate is herself, the more she listens to what is in her heart, and when she returns to the personality that she had as a child then that is when she becomes successful. Being yourself is hard for a Sophisticate because the world tells her who she is and what she wants.  In the 21st Century it seems as if it takes more courage for a Sophisticate to  succeed and believe in herself.

Paper faces on parade . . .
Hide your face,
so the world will
never find you!"
from the play 'Phantom of the  Opera'

According to Maxwell Maltz in the book 'Psycho-Cybernectics' by Maxwell Maltz he defines success as S- Sense of direction; U- Understanding; C- Courage; C- Charity; Esteem; S- Self-Confidence; S- Self Acceptance. According to  Maxwell Maltz, success is found within a Sophisticate herself.

Can a Sophisticate ever hide from herself? Can a Sophisticate hide from the success that is hers alone to achieve? A Sophisticate was meant to succeed because she was meant to have the courage to be herself.

"We understand how dangerous a mask can be. We all become what we pretend to be.” Patrick  Rothfuss

The only time wearing a mask is okay, is when a Sophisticate holds in her conscious thoughts a positive image of what and who she wants to be become so that she can achieve her goals. The positive self-image mask a Sophisticate wears to grow to become successful eventually becomes her own face to the rest of the world.

For a Sophisticate in the 21st Century, or what Sophistication means in the 21st Century there is nothing more beautiful than reality. There is nothing more beautiful than what is inside of her, what is in her heart, who she really is, or the truth.

“Don't you know that a midnight hour comes when everyone has to take off his mask? Do you think life always lets itself be trifled with? Do you think you can sneak off a little before midnight to escape this?” Søren Kierkegaard
