One of my favorite scenes is the trampoline scene from the movie 'BIG' with Tom Hanks and Elizabeth Perkins. For those of you who haven't seen the movie, in the scene Elizabeth Perkins is a beautiful high-powered executive, who comes over to Tom Hanks apartment wearing a gorgeous black dress and high heels. Trying to impress him she tries to be vulnerable in her own way but fails. By the end of the scene, Tom Hanks allowed her to feel comfortable enough to be herself and discover her inner smile.

Laughter and the ability not to take life seriously and have fun is very important. To discover your inner smile you must discover your inner child. When I am with my good friends, I felt comfortable enough to experience happiness because they allow me to be a human being and have imperfections.

A Sophisticate remembers the enthusiasm she had as a child. She re-discovers life and her perception is one of optimism and hope. Although, the simple pleasures may or may not have changed, like when she was a child she experiences excitement and anticipation for the simple pleasures like candy, an ice cream cone, and unwrapping a gift.

Opening herself and her heart to others, a Sophisticate allows herself to be vulnerable enough to discover and show her fun side. A Sophisticate is innocent and is able to be and perceive everything around her in a different yet fun and natural way. Her charm lies in simplicity. Part of that simplicity is being able to re-discover that sense of 'play' in the harsh light of reality.

In the end, a Sophisticate is a kid at heart because she has the optimism, enjoyment in simple pleasures, love of laughter, and sense of play coupled with the maturity of an adult, and the politeness of a lady to charm anyone and everyone off their feet. ;D
