A Sophisticate is Culturally Diverse

"No culture can live if it attempts to be exclusive." Gandhi

Sophisticate has her own beliefs, customs, way of thinking, behaving, or working. The core of sophistication in the 21st century is culture. If a Sophisticate is colorful in a good way with her personality, her artwork, designs, her style, her clothes, and her jewelry why not her skin? A Sophisticate is black, white, (A Sophisticate is Black and White) and beautiful all over.

In the 21st Century, the world is a melting pot of uniqueness. A Sophisticate herself is not exempt and is unique. No two people are alike and a Sophisticate  is unlike anyone else.

When my Dad went to Cornell University, I was able to go to Pre-K and Kindergarten with children from all around the world. There was only one other girl from the United States besides me. My three best friends were from Japan, Indonesia, and Switzerland. I  had a crush on a boy from Sweden and there were kids in my class from Africa, China, Japan, India, and Mexico to name a few.

There was a little boy from Japan and little girl from China who always played together. Did they understand they were from different countries who sometimes didn't get along? Nope. Race, religion, and culture didn't exist among us. We all co-existed and played together nicely. We had fights but they are the ones that normally erupt among children about toys or who was in charge.

The core of Sophistication in the 21st Century is being yourself regardless of race, religion, culture, and sexual preference. Her culture is who a Sophisticate is at the core of her being. Although, she may make attempts her culture cannot be separated from who she is without misery or sadness.

"If art is to nourish the roots of our culture, society must set the artist free to follow his vision wherever it takes him." John F. Kennedy

A Sophisticate can try to fit a cultural mold that may have been in fashion in the 1950's but how can she go back when leaders like Gloria Steinem and Martin Luther King Jr. taught us that equality is desired and mutually beneficial? How can she go back when visionaries like Walt Disney taught us to 'Keep Moving Forward'? How can she go back to the mindset that existed when  technology has allowed her and society to have opportunities that have allowed her to succeed? For a Sophisticate to act or go back to a time when cultures were separated and the world extended as far as her lawn cannot be done without denying the gift of herself or the happiness that another human being can bring to her life.

"Culture makes people understand each other better. And if they understand each other better in their soul, it is easier to overcome the economic and political barriers. But first they have to understand that their neighbour is, in the end, just like them, with the same problems, the same questions."  Paulo Coelho

For a Sophisticate in the 21st Century her backyard is a click away on her iPhone and her neighbors are a million miles away. With information so readily available and people so far away a button click away, there is no excuse not to understand another culture.

"There's a common belief among anthropologists that you must immerse yourself in an unfamiliar world to truly understand your own"   from 'The Nanny Diaries' (2007)

Cultural acceptance is another word for cultural awareness or cultural diversity. Cultural acceptance is the same as acceptance of others without judgement or criticism. What is true sophistication? The beauty found within a persons heart or soul, not on a necklace. It is a person's heart, their compassion, and willingness to give that makes a person sophisticated.

"In order to irreplaceable one must always be different" Coco Chanel

A Sophisticate is culturally diverse because she is aware and respectful of the cultures around her. A Sophisticate is aware of the world around her because she is different from others. In the end, she is culturally different and uniquely herself. ;D
