A Sophisticate Gets Equal Pay

"With the gender pay gap, women work 59 FREE days every year" Huffington Post

There was a time when women couldn't join the military, vote, own property, get a job, or even get an education. There was a time when women were expected to stay at home, look pretty and be silent. The goal of a woman was to be a wife and her goal as a wife was to make her husband happy. The question of whether she was happy or well treated was never thought to be asked because it didn't matter, no one cared.

"My own mother always taught me that fairness was a family value- I think equal pay is about fairness for everyone" Mike Honda

In the 21st Century, a woman is has no limits and the opportunities provided to her is limitless. She can do whatever she wants and hold any position, or have any career she desires. She is to a man in every way, or is she?

"We sought justice because equal pay for equal work is an American value. That fight took me ten years. It took me all the way to the Supreme Court. And, in a 5-4 decision, they stood on the side of those who shortchanged my pay, my overtime, and my retirement just because I'm a woman" Lily Ledbetter

In the United States, there is one aspect of equal treatment that is still denied to her and that is being paid equally to a man.  That means that if  a  woman were elected as President of the United States and hold the most powerful position in the world her payment is still $0.77 to every dollar a man earns regardless of the responsibility being equal.

"Since President Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act in 1963, the gap between men and women's earnings has narrowed by less than a half-cent per year. At this rate, American women will have to wait until 2062 to bring home the same salary as their male counterparts" Jackie Speier

With all of the advances made in equal rights and technology, why are women being paid less? If a Sophisticate is being  paid less, why hasn't someone fought to fix this situation? President Obama has a web site and is working with law makers to make it possible (Equal Rights or Equal Pay?). Unfortunately, that bill for equal payment did not go as fast  or easily as healthcare. Healthcare is very important. If a Sophisticate is going to live or wants to live, she needs health care. She also needs money to buy that healthcare. A Sophisticate would like the opportunity or choice to  live until 100 years old. For her a small part of affording to live until 100 years old would for her to be paid equally to a man.

"Join the union, girls, and together say Equal Pay for Equal Work" Susan B. Anthony

There were an influx of novels that were written about women from male authors. 'Sister Carrie' by Theodore Dreiser and 'Tess of the D'urbervilles' by Thomas Hardy are two examples. The literature was mainly about women. What I had learned was that it was because men felt the need to 'figure women out'. Today articles in business explore why women lack in leadership skills.

Are articles discussing the problem with the leadership skills of women because people are trying to find an excuse NOT to pay a woman equally to a man?

What and where is the disconnect? It can't be that a Sophisticate is completely at fault or does not have the inability, right? An article written in March of 2014, stated that women are enrolling universities at a higher rate then men (Womens College Enrollment Gains Leave Men Behind). Therefore, women as a whole are are taking proactive approach to being educated so that they can generate money for the  United States economy.

In 2014, women currently hold 5.2 percent of Fortune 500 CEO positions and 5.4 percent of Fortune 1000 CEO positions. (See Catalyst.org) Beyond the track record of successful women and the statistic on Female CEO's obviously women are able to achieve a high level of success in business. Therefore, they should deserve a recognition of that effort and success.

Why are women being paid less then men?

How many corporations are paying women and men equally?
How many corporations are not paying women and men equally?
Is it men who don't want to pay women equally because they are afraid?
Is it women who are not paying themselves equally to men?
Are men buying more than women and that why they are being paid more?
Is it that no one is requiring equal pay for both men and women?
Are women taking a pay cut to show that men should be above them financially?
Are some corporations not making enough money to support the equal payment of their employees? Are there more men than women who have a job in the United States?
Is it because of the lack of women in the workforce that justifies women getting the short end of the payment scale?
Are men living longer than women so they need more long term support?

"Equal pay isn't just a women's issue; when women get equal pay, their family incomes rise and the whole family benefits" Mike Honda

A Sophisticate is a woman and loves to spend money like a man.  Why not give a woman just as much money as man? In the end, a Sophisticate in the 21st Century is a woman who deserves equal treatment, equal respect, for the equal education she obtained to perform the equal amount effort she puts in for a day that is equally 24 hours long ;D
