"What is the use of living, if not be to strive for noble causes and to make this muddled world a better place for those who will live in it after we are gone?" Winston Churchill (Speech in Dundee, 1908)

As a Sophisticate get's older, she realizes that everything comes full circle. What does 'full circle' mean? It means a Sophisticate will face the issues she fears in her past. She allows herself to confront, resolve and make peace with those issues. The choice she has to make is whether she will help others avoid the same mistakes or issues and provide a better future.

When life came full circle for Lea Tran of Distinctive Designs she decided to help others. The decision she made was to give hope and support to those who suffer from domestic violence. Sadly to say, Lea had witnessed countless acts of physical, mental and financial abusive, which were considered normal in her country and the society where she came from.

The connection between Laurel House and Distinctive Designs is that both of their missions are to provide love and comfort to everyone who needs it. Distinctive Designs medium is window treatments and Laurel House provides housing, counseling services and education or training for abusive victims to build up their confident and independent to sustain a beautiful home.

Laurel House is a comprehensive domestic violence agency serving individuals, families, and communities throughout Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The agency's name was selected because of the beauty of the laurel, Pennsylvania's state flower. It represents a victory for people who have taken the courageous first step of reaching out to Laurel House in their efforts to build a violence-free life for themselves and their children.

As a culmination of her past and her accomplishments Lea Tran will be having an event to benefit Laurel House on February 26th called Window Fashion Runway For a Cause. Why attend or donate? Because domestic violence is a major issue facing women today and we CAN end it.

"The number of American troops killed in Afghanistan and Iraq between 2001 an 2012 was 6,488. The number of American women who were murdered by current or ex male partners during that time was 11,766. That's nearly double the amount of causalities lost during war" (30 Shocking Domestic ViolenceStatistics That Remind Us It's An Epidemic)

Like the fight found on a battlefield, where lines are drawn and fear is present, domestic violence is a war found at home. A war that is about the physical and mental control one person has over another person. Domestic violence means more than just physical, mental or financial abuse, it's  about the dependence on another person and the fear to be independent.

Being that a Sophisticate is emotionally independent and in the face of fear, is brave enough to defy it. A Sophisticate stands up and does what she can to prevent being controlled including helping others. Are you Sophisticated? Then join Sophisticate Lea Tran at Window Fashion Runway 4A Cause on Feb 26th to celebrate the victory of helping other women in Laurel House community.
