At my first communion party I had my favorite dress on. It was a pink flowered dress with a huge pink sash and bow. I wore my white stockings and white patent leather shoes.

Towards the end of the party, I saw the boys  playing soccer outside. Without a moment of hesitation I joined in the game. For the first time, I ran around with the boys vying for the soccer ball. I raced  around my lawn and down the street battling the boys as my white stockings got dirty, my shoes became scoffed, and my hair became disheveled. I looked like a mess but it ended up being the best part of the day.

As a result of those 10 or 15 minutes of fun, ten years later I was back out on the Soccer field. This time I was not in a dress but shorts, a short sleeved shirt, pink shin guards, and cleats. More than that it was the only sport I lived, breathed, and truly loved playing.

"Soccer isn't something that you can fake, it's a feeling, a passion, a lifestyle. If you don't live, eat, sleep, and breath soccer, then you are not a true Soccer Player, you just wear the jersey." Unknown

To be a good soccer player a Sophisticate has to have dexterity with her feet. She has to be ruthless in wanting to steal the ball from her opponent. A Sophisticate  needs to aggressive in her pursuit to get down the field without anyone getting in her way. A Sophisticate must be fearless to use her body to stop a ball that is hard as a rock and is going a million miles per hour.

When a Sophisticate plays soccer she has to have endurance to run the field for two 45 minute halves. The better player a Sophisticate is, the less she has to run because Soccer is about control and teamwork.

Similar to Basketball, a Sophisticate relies on her teammates for help and must "dribble" the ball down the court or field. She needs to work with her to create a system so she can get the ball into the opponents goal. The Soccer ball is her main priority. She wants the ball, she wants the ball to stay as close and in her control as possible. She does not want the ball to fall victim to her opponents feet.

A Sophisticate feels a certain excitement with the perfect kick as it sails across the field. There is another feeling of excitement when she can "head-butt" the ball towards her teammate. For a Sophisticate the best part  of playing Soccer is that she can use everything but her hands and arms to achieve her goal. What is her goal? To get the ball past the goalie.

The beauty of Soccer is the mud, the dirt, the grass, the sweat, and the aggression. Although, not as physical or violent as rugby, it is not as pretty as Basketball, Volleyball Lacrosse, Field Hockey that can be played indoors. It is not a "pretty" sport where girls still wear skirts and there are no rain dates. In fact, the best time to play and show off your skill is in the rain when there numerous obstacles put in your way. A Sophisticate loves the fact that when the ball that she depends is found in a wet, muddy field she herself can get muddy.

Soccer is played in all weather. The challenges, the dexterity, speed and obstacles are what is beautiful and fun. There are no "time outs" a break in-between. When a Sophisticate plays soccer she truly gets her "kicks in the grass". In the end, a Sophisticate plays Soccer because she is tough, she loves to play in the mud, is fearless, and has the endurance to go the distance.   ;D
