A Sophisticate is Cosplay

Since I moved around a lot and was an only child when there was no one around I would either read or  "play pretend". I'd dress up and act the part of whatever I'd imagine. Either I was a business woman using a backgammon game as her briefcase, or I was a celebrity going to fashionable parties.

Unfortunately, as an adult "play-pretend" had to end. As an adult the only time "play-pretend" was acceptable was during Halloween. As a result,  Halloween became one of my favorite holidays. (A Sophisticate and Halloween: Trick or Chic?)

In the 21st Century, a Sophisticate doesn't have to wait until Halloween. Besides being a real life actress and celebrity acting in plays she is also interested in Cosplay. Cosplay is no different then acting on stage. A natural extension of exploring her imagination  (A Sophisticate in Wonderland) and creativity of fashion.

The difference between cosplay and "high fashion" is that cosplay is when a Sophisticate takes herself and not just reflects her personality but becomes more then what she hopes to become. She physically enters the world of her imagination to become her dream.

"There's a common belief among anthropologists that you must immerse yourself in an unfamiliar world in order to truly understand your own." 'The Nanny Diaries' (2007)

Cosplay is defined as "the practice of dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video game, especially one from the Japanese genres of manga and anime."  It is one of the few words that is both a noun and verb without adding anything extra like an "ing", "ly", "s", or "es". Yet, cosplay itself is an extension or something "extra" that helps a Sophisticate express or be who she is...

All a Sophisticate needs to do a Cosplay is her imagination, creativity, a location that would fit the backdrop of her cosplay, and a camera.

"Cosplay is imitating your favorite character to channel your own power. It's about confidence." Kelly Davis

Cosplay makes a Sophisticate feel important. By doing cosplay, a Sophisticate takes the shape and form of her a favorite character. A character  that inspires genuine feelings of love and remembrance from others. Through Cosplay a Sophisticate is giving of herself to bring out the feelings of joy and happiness for others.

"Cosplay is Versality." Kelly Davis

For a Sophisticate the art of cosplay is way to escape her every day life by taking on a different personna. By dressing up as the character you can be them and .

Like the Sophistication in the 21st Century, Cosplay goes deeper then just looking or dressing up.  Cosplay is about embodying the spirit and essence of the character. By embodying the character a Sophisticate can channel her own power. By escaping into another world, she can understand and take charge of her own life.(A Sophisticate is Boss).

A Sophisticate is Cosplay because she embodies the characters she admires.  She plays the part or "plays pretend" and uses her vision to inspire the feelings of others. In the end, a Sophisticate is Cosplay because she embodies and channels the power of others to discover her own. ;D
